The Albion Millworks is a member of the US Green Building Council and a LEED Accredited Professional. Based in Washington DC, the Council is the active force in the vital dialogue between environmental voices, construction businesses, manufacturers and government. We are constantly reviewing products and proceedures with the goal of bringing sanity and sustainability into the building profession. Because of the high impact of commercial growth on all our lives, our focus has been on dealing with opportunities and challenges created in this arena. In general, the commercial or government building is a longer term investment than the average residential home and the inherent eco-problems demand our attention. That said, it is my personal goal to bring innovation to the average remodel or residential addition. I believe that innovations for large applications can be modified for use in home environments and still be cost effective. So...USGBC will soon be unveiling their LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards for residential building. The biggest challenge is breaking out of the prior bad habits and traditions which, up to now, have been leading us away from common sense building, efficiency and harmonious living. Richard

MISSION
STATEMENT The resources required for creating, operating, and replenishing our current level of infrastructure are enormous, yet the resources available for such activity are diminishing. To remain competitive and to continue to expand and produce profits in the future, the building industry must address the economic and environmental consequences of its actions. This need is driving the building industry to develop and market products that are more environmentally and economically viable. The Council has grown to more than 800 leading international organizations including: product manufacturers such as United Technologies/Carrier, Herman Miller, and Armstrong World Industries; environmental leaders such as the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Rocky Mountain Institute, and the Audubon Society; building and design professionals such as the American Society of Interior Designers and the American Institute of Architects; retailers and building owners such as the Gap and Target Stores; as well as financial industry leaders such as the Bank of America. The mission
of this unprecedented coalition is to accelerate the adoption of green building
practices, technologies, policies, and standards. Membership
